Dorfmuseum Wiesen

The museum's historical farmhouse contains a sewing room and weaving workshop

The Wiesen Village Museum shows what life was like in a small, Walser farmhouse in the 19th century. Along with the usual kitchen, parlour and bedroom, the house also contains a sewing room and weaving workshop, which bear witness to the outworking that was once common in the area. The museum also exhibits antique household appliances and agricultural implements in the structurally-original rooms of the house. The collection of local-history items also includes, as part of a permanent exhibition, “Old Postcards from Wiesen”. The «Haus zum süessa Wichel» (house “süessa Wichel”) in the community Wiesen (since 2009 administrative district of Davos) was in fact an accommodation for less-favoured persons, including day labourers. The house, with its stone foundations and half-timbered upper floors, is of a structure widely used in the Walser region. The historical rooms of the Wiesen Village Museum are themselves part of the collection that is housed in them. They jointly show what life was like in a farmhouse in the 19th century. Items of special interest include the sewing room and weaving workshop, along with the “Old Postcards from Wiesen” exhibition. Most of the museum’s collection consists of items donated by local people.
