Fortezia Stalusa
The fortress museum near Disentis/Mustér
The Fortezia Stalusa is a former secret fortress of the Swiss army located near Disentis/Mustér. The construction is accessible to the public today. The fortress was built in 1967 as a part of the socalled Sperrstelle Russein. This military protective barrier system was designed to prevent potential enemies from crossing the Lukmanier and Oberalp Alpine passes during the Second World War and the Cold War. The Fortezia Stalusa was built to strengthen this barrier and was equipped with two “Festungsminenwerfer” [mine shell launching mortars], among other things. The Fortezia Stalusa has been preserved in its original condition and – unlike many other former fortresses of the Swiss army – it has not been disarmed. This means that the fortress is still equipped with its original armament. The construction consists of several underground rooms with military functions and rooms for sleeping and eating. The fortress also houses a large exhibition of infantry weapons.
