Institut für Kulturforschung Graubünden
The Institut für Kulturforschung Graubünden (ikg) is an independent research institution based in Chur. It conducts and promotes scholarly research in the humanities, social and cultural sciences relating to the Alpine regions in general with a special focus on Graubünden and its neighbouring regions.
The institute refers to its broad field of activity, which includes disciplines such as history, folk and language studies, art history, archaeology and ethnomusicology, by means of the collective term "cultural research" (Kulturforschung). The institute adheres to university standards when carrying out research projects.
The ikg’s governing body is the foundation Stiftung für Kulturforschung Graubünden, established in 2007. The ikg’s projects, events and infrastructure are financed through contributions from the state sector, i.e. the federal and cantonal governments, as well as contributions from third parties and funds provided by the governing body.
The ikg’s head office is located in Chur. In Sils in the Engadin, the institute operates a branch office (www.kulturforschung-sils.ch).
Typically, the ikg's research projects are concluded with the publication of a book / an e-publication. In some cases, however, the publications are complemented by digital repositories or digital documents even constitute the end product of a research process.
