Kulturarchiv Bonaduz
The cultural repository of Bonaduz
The Bonaduz Cultural Archive uses images, sounds, texts and historical objects to recount the story of Bonaduz. It concentrates its efforts on preserving historical documents, such as manuscripts, genealogies, biographies and photographs. Containing some ten thousand documents in all, the Bonaduz Cultural Archive covers the period from 1700 to the present day. The items concerned are archived and preserved in accordance with scientific criteria. The archive also contains the works of Swiss theologist Peter Niederstein (1933–2014). The Cultural Archive is housed in the Catholic Parish Centre. In 2007, Walter Bieler, a locally-based expert in wooden building engineering, converted what had once been a historical farm building into the current centre, by extending the existing structure with a corridor and preserving many of its original features. The Bonaduz Cultural Archive houses some ten thousand historic documents relating to the village and its rich past. In terms of subject-matter, the archive covers culture in general, economics, politics, popular history and tourism, with material dating from the year 1700 to the present day. The Cultural Archive is housed in the Catholic Parish Centre in Bonaduz.
