Kulturarchiv Cazis
The historical photographic archive at Heinzenberg
The Cazis cultural archive at the Tartar sub-community of Cazis is both a library as well as an historical and photographic archive. Some 3200 largely historic photographs showing Cazis and the villages of Tartar, Sarn, Portein and Präz in the period from 1875 until today constitute an important collection. The thematically-diverse library includes about 2500 works, which also feature many antiquarian books. Following on from a donation of works by Claudio Mainetti in 2003, the focus of the library is on ornithology, history and geography. The Cazis Cultural Archive also houses documents on local and regional history; thus the archive includes, for example, documents about the archaeological excavations at Petrushügel in Cresta, the witch trials in Sarn or the mercenary soldier and the mercenaries of Cazis. The Cultural Archive also collects objects that document the life and history of the community. Furthermore, the cultural archive contains objects along with flags, uniforms and weapons, as well as documents about local and regional history. The library features both a thematically-diverse lending library as well as antiquarian works.
