Museum La Truaisch

The ethnology and minerals museum in Sedrun

The main topics at the ethnological section of the La Truaisch museum in Sedrun are living and working prior to 1950. What is on display is how artisans, shoemakers, cabinet makers and smiths worked and the museum is housed within what was the holiday home of the railway manager Sigisbert Monn (1857-1906) which was erected in 1898/1899. You can also learn how linen is made from flax. In addition, the museum has a collection of some 50 films about regional history and, for example, a collection of dinnerware from a Bugnei potter. In the minerals department of the museum, there are finds from the crystal and mineral searcher’s region Tujetsch. The exhibition is enriched by a host of minerals that were found in the neighbourhood over recent years in the area of Sedrun during the construction of the new Gotthard Base Tunnel. The museum also hosts different exhibitions. The La Truaisch museum maintains a collection of historic items from the fields of craftsmanship and housekeeping. In the museum, it is possible to see a traditional weaving and spinning room, as well as items for the manufacture of linen.
