Museum Waltensburger Meister / Arcun da tradiziun Vuorz
Museum of village history and the medieval works of the Waltensburg Master
The Museum Waltensburger Meister is dedicated to an unknown artist from the Middle Ages who became simply known as the Waltensburger Meister (Waltensburg Maestro) after his fresco paintings in the village church at Waltensburg. This artist was active in the first half of the 14th century, painting churches and secular buildings in Graubünden. His work is deemed to be unique in terms of Gothic murals north of the Alps. The Museum Waltensburger Meister presents the works of the artist, indicates his significance history and throws light upon the times during which the artist lived. The Museum Waltensburger Meister is also the Local Museum of Waltensburg. In the course of changing exhibitions, furniture and other objects are presented that mark everyday life in village in the 19th century. As for the Waltensburger Meister himself, whose works decorate many churches interiors in Graubünden, there is no specific individual collection of his works for obvious reasons and the museum sees itself as in information/communication source. The museum has a local history collection that consists generally of furniture and craft items from the 19th century. The museum in Casa Cadruvi also features a bakery with a wood-fired oven.
