Pro Grigioni Italiano
The organization Pro Grigioni Italiano (Pgi) was established as an association in 1918 in Chur. Its purpose is to promote the Italian language in the canton of Graubünden and in Switzerland, to strengthen the cultural identity of the Italian-speaking part of Graubünden and to represent the interests of the Italian-speaking minority. The Pgi has a federative structure with ten sections throughout Switzerland, and its head office are in Chur. The Pgi’s activities are primarily funded by the federal government and the canton of Graubünden and are governed by four-year service agreements that distinguish between three areas of activity: cultural and public events; publications by the Pgi, including the Almanacco del Grigioni Italiano, the quarterly cultural magazine Quaderni grigionitaliani, the literary series, the scientific series, the children's magazine Mondo Nostro and other individual works; and consultation on language policy issues. The Pgi also has a series of publications by authors from the Italian-speaking part of Graubünden, among them Ponziano Togni, Fernando Lardelli, Paolo Pola, Oscar Nussio, Renato Stampa, Damiano Gianoli, Not Bott, Wolfgang Hildesheimer, Miguela Tamò, Varlin, Silvio Giacometti and Wanda Guanella. The Pgi regularly promotes art exhibitions held in its own Galleria Pgi in Poschiavo as well as at other sections' venues in and outside the Italian-speaking part of the canton.
