SAC-Bibliothek Pontresina
The library in the Museum Alpin
The Museum Alpin in Pontresina has a rich collection on alpinism and Graubünden’s mountain landscape. Fittingly, the library of the Bernina section of the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC) is integrated into the museum. The SAC’s Bernina section was established as early as 1891. The section brings together people with a sporting, cultural or scientific interest in the mountains. The focus is on the mountain landscape of the Upper Engadin and adjacent regions. The club operates five mountain huts that provide alpine accommodation. The library documents alpinism in general as well as the history of the mountaineering village of Pontresi-na and the Upper Engadin mountains in particular. Among the topics worthy of being highlighted is the first ascent of the Piz Bernina in 1850 by Johann Wilhelm Coaz and Jon and Lorenz Ragut Tscharner.
