Talmuseum Tgea da Schons
The regional museum of the valley of Schamsertal
The Tgea da Schons Museum in Zillis portrays the pre-industrial agricultural life and crafts of the valley of Schamsertal. The museum building, which is a farmhouse dating from about 1580, is built in the typical style of the central region of the Swiss canton of Graubünden, complete with direct access to the neighbouring barn. The cellar areas and former storage rooms now house objects that were once used to process dairy products and meat, while the living areas and kitchen are used to exhibit antique furniture, textiles and ceramic objects that would typically have been used by a local family of the period. Agricultural implements, such as rakes and ploughs, can be seen in the old barn. An iron, horse&drawn mowing machine from 1935 dates from the period when mechanisation started to make itself felt. Other items exhibited in the barn include a series of carpenter’s tools and various old coaches and sledges. The Tgea da Schons Museum portrays what life would have been like for a local family in pre-industrial times. The living areas contain furniture, textiles and ceramic items from the period, along with examples of the minerals that were once mined in the area. The large barn contains a selection of craftsmen’s tools and agricultural implements. The collection includes rakes, ploughs, wooden harrows and baskets, along with sledges, coaches and a large two-man wooden plane, plus objects from an old mill in Pazen.
