Wintersportmuseum Davos
Graubünden's own museum of sport on ice and snow
The Davos Museum of Winter Sports shows, with a series of historical objects, how sport involving snow and ice has developed from its early beginnings up to the present. Exhibits include bobsleighs and sledges from local workshops and a collection of antique skis and ice&skates, along with parts of old cable&cars and chairlifts, and early examples of piste&preparation machines. The museum explains how the history of winter sports is closely intertwined with the development of Davos as a spa resort and tourist destination. Exhibition subjects important to Davos include innovations like the Spengler Cup, which dates back to 1923, making it the world’s oldest international ice&hockey tournament. The museum’s collection also includes various cups and trophies dating back to before the First World War, including one endowed by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (1859-1930), the author of the Sherlock Holmes stories. The collection of the Davos Museum of Winter Sports includes a wide range of equipment from all manner of Alpine competitions. It also includes items of infrastructure, such as parts of old cable-car gondolas and chairlifts, and early examples of piste-preparation machines. Other items on show include historical winter-sports clothing. Throughout the museum, its exhibits are used to show the history and development of winter sports in relation to Davos.
