A Wonder Room in the Form of a Book – the "Almanacco del Grigioni Italiano"
"There is no such thing as Graubünden": one might come to this conclusion when attempting to summarise the nature and peculiarities of Switzerland’s largest canton. Such is the diversity of its valleys, the languages spoken there, and the range of its peculiarities.
Luckily, there are vessels that provide a space for showcasing this variety. The "Almanacco del Grigioni Italiano", published by the association Pro Grigioni Italiano and printed by the long-established Menghini printing works in Poschiavo, is one such vessel. The Almanac includes historical and contemporary information, poetic and everyday items, scientific as well as entertaining bits. And, quite frequently, the texts cover several aspects and genres.
Thus, the Almanac resembles the early form of a museum: a cabinet of curiosities, which contained rare and sometimes exotic objects. However, each item included in the Almanac is connected to the culture and people of Italian-speaking Southern Graubünden. Over time, this "wonder room" has become a reference work of large proportions: the Almanac has been published since 1918. As a side note: the articles can be searched on Porta Cultura.
