Roasted Chestnut Pan
In the lower Val Poschiavo (the southern part of the valley around Brusio and Poschiavo) there are many chestnut forests. Our family owns about twenty chestnut trees, and as children it was always a grand occasion when we could go collecting chestnuts in the fall, which our grandmother would then roast at home over the open fire. It was our job to peel the chestnuts. Later on, our parents would join us. Even today, the whole family still gathers around the fire, eating chestnuts and chatting together — that, to me, is home.
