Two Placemats

These placemats were sewn by my grandmother from Valendas (born in 1932) using old bed sheets, at my request. These ones were made by my grandmother from Versam (born in 1933), who wove them in the 1950s as part of her own trousseau. I use them for special occasions, and they always bring back memories of two wonderful women. They fill me with humility and awe for their personal histories and craftsmanship, while reminding me of my roots.
