Beschreibung
Corviglia, St. Moritz, Switzerland.
Low angle shot of a skier taking a small jump. Camera follows skiers as they travel down snowy hillsides. Narrator observes that although skiers like the thrills, they don't think about the spills until it is too late. M/S of a man who the narrator describes as "an S.O.S. man". M/S of a skier passing the camera at speed, he falls (dramatic music on soundtrack). The S.O.S. man sees that he is in trouble and runs towards an S.O.S. station. He lifts the lid of a metal hidey hole that contains a telephone. He makes a call.
Six rescue teams operate in the St Moritz area and when it is quiet they practice their rescue techniques. Various shots of the injured man calling out and of the S.O.S. team coming to his rescue. They put on their skis and ski along with a stretcher sled. They arrive where the man has fallen and take off their skis. They take the skis off the "injured man" - Carlo Luminati - and give him a snifter of Brandy. Carlo's rescuer laughs about him getting a free drink.
Narrator recounts the history of the rescue system - how many lives have been saved, how many broken limbs attended to etc. Mario Walther and John Eugster are named as the two S.O.S. men. Various shots of them tucking up Carlo in his stretcher and pulling along the sled. L/S of them skiing down the hillside.
Note: print of CP 016 is badly scratched.
