Das Gelbe Haus Flims
The place of cultural interest
The Yellow House in Flims realises exhibitions on topics such as design, traditional handicrafts and architecture in the Alps. The exhibitions are generally conceived for the house itself and reflect the cultural discourse of the recent past and present. The house has no collection of its own and can consequently freely select topics. Originally, the present-day white cube was a yellow-painted farmhouse. When architect Rudolf Olgiati (1910-1995) left a part of his collection of cultural items to the community of Flims, he made a stipulation that the house be rebuilt to his preference, in particular that it be “painted white right from the very top to the very bottom”. The reconstruction which received multiple awards was made by Rudolf Olgiati’s son Valerio Olgiati from 1997 to 1999.
