Festungsmuseum Sperre Trin
The fortress at the entrance to Surselva
The rock face Crap Sogn Barcazi with a castle ruin on his top, located between the villages Trin and Trin Mulin, houses a military fortress built during World War II. The complex, kept secret for decades, can now be visited. The fortress with his bunkers masked as rock, waterworks and hovel is subterraneously connected to a second weir system in the rock of Crap Pign through 300 steps. It served to protect the entrance to Surselva and the so called «Reduit», the main defence zone of Swiss Armed Forces secured against possible attacks by means of various fortresses. The military blockade equipped with machine guns and anti-tank cannons is recorded as «Blockade of national priority» in the inventory of combat and command infrastructures. The two connected subterranean rock constructions of Crap Sogn Barcazi and Crap Pign are respectively equipped with two machine guns to protect the entry to Surselva. Every complex also had a light machine gun for reciprocal safeguarding. The military blockades included also various bunkers and a kitchen of Security Forces (Festungswachtkorps), that is actually used for food and refreshments during site visits.
