Heididorf
The Children’s Book-Themed Experience Park
The Heididorf in Maienfeld is the original site of the famous "Heidi" novels by Johanna Spyri (1827-1901). The peaceful hamlet is home to the original Heidihaus, the house where Heidi lived in the story – which is furnished just as it would have been in Heidi’s day –, the whole Dörfli [small village in Swiss German] and the Johanna Spyri Experience with interesting facts about the author and her Heidi. The visitor centre includes a village and souvenir shop with the smallest post office in Switzerland and the special Heididorf postmark. Take an emotional journey back in time to the Swiss mountain landscape of the late 19th century and discover how Heidi lived.
Johanna Spyri’s children’s book "Heidi: Her Years of Wandering and Learning", published in 1880 [Original Title: «Heidis Lehr- und Wanderjahre»], and its sequel "Heidi: How She Used What She Learned", published in 1881 [Original Title: «Heidi kann brauchen, was es gelernt hat»], have been translated into more than 60 languages and adapted for the screen dozens of times. Even beyond the original novels, the vivacious girl Heidi became a symbol of an idealised, pristine Switzerland. Located above the village of Maienfeld, the Heididorf brings Johanna Spyri’s story about her lively mountain child to life. Thus, the Heididorf is aimed at children and caters to tourist requirements. The idea is to remain as faithful as possible in recreating the novels’ setting
