Kantonsbibliothek Graubünden

Multilingual so-called “library for studies and education” in Graubünden’s cantonal capital Chur

The Kantonsbibliothek Graubünden emerged in 1883 from its predecessor, the Cantonal Gymnasium’s library. Functioning as Graubünden’s archival library, the Kantonsbibliothek (Cantonal Library) is the central collection point for Raetica, i.e. any media that originated in Graubünden or are otherwise connected to Graubünden through their content or authorship. The collection of Raetica includes, in addition to printed texts, a wide range of information carriers such as audiovisual media, posters, graphics or image reproductions (cf. also special collections). The Kantonsbibliothek’s collection complements that of the State Archive Graubünden which can be found in the same building. In its function as a “library for studies and education”, the Cantonal Library advances education, science and culture by means of providing corresponding media content in all three cantonal languages. In addition to material dealing with a wide range of non-fiction topics, the library offers classics in the fields of literature, film and music.
