Museum 14/18
Alpine military history museum of Val Müstair
The Stelvio-Umbrail 14/18 Museum documents the history of the First World War in the mountain area of Stelvio and Umbrail Pass. Although not involved in the war activities, Switzerland constructed many buildings in the context of national defence, but also engaged thousands of soldiers in military service at the trilateral border to Italy and Austria. The museum at Santa Maria in Val Müstair shows testimonies from that period along with the historical context and his archive brings together depictions and originals of military-historical documents from Switzerland, Austria and Italy. Various theme paths leading to former military bases and emplacements in the area of the passes are giving visitors an insight into the World War history. The Stelvio-Umbrail 14/18 Museum shows large-scale panoramas from the period of World War, who are of particular interest from the military and natural history point of view. The military buildings are presented on behalf of reliefs and models along with their code names.
