Nietzsche House
The philosophy centre of the Engadine
The works and impact of the philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche (1844-1900), as well as his relationship to the Engadine, have been researched, documented and discussed in the Nietzsche-Haus since 1960. On display in the exhibition rooms are original documents and items owned by Friedrich Nietzsche, who stayed in the house for seven summers. Part of the permanent exhibition shows the relationships between Nietzsche, Sils and other writers, artists and scholars such as Hermann Hesse, Thomas Mann, Robert Musil, Theodor Adorno, Paul Celan and much more. A development of the history of reception is the annual Nietzsche Colloquium at Sils-Maria, as well as by means of working stays at Nietzsche-Haus for researchers and persons engaged in the cultural sector. The Nietzsche-Haus is correspondingly no pure museum institution per se. The exhibition rooms show items as well as writings and letters by Friedrich Nietzsche and the objects serve to communicate the life and work of the philosopher. At the Nietzsche-Haus, there are two libraries assembled by Nietzsche researchers. Special exhibitions facilitate a dialogue between contemporary art and the life and work of Friedrich Nietzsche.
