Viaduct Museum Langwies

When it was built between 1912 and 1914, the Langwies Viaduct was the world’s longest-span reinforced concrete railway bridge. Having shaped the Schanfigg valley’s landscape for over 111 years, it is considered a pioneering feat of engineering. Travelling from Chur to Arosa on the Arosa-Bähnli railway, visitors can experience this fusion of engineering and artistry first-hand, amid a breathtaking mountain landscape. The Viadukt Museum Langwies is dedicated to the history of this extraordinary bridge and its significance for the region. With several rooms and sections, the Viadukt Museum Langwies offers a unique kind of museum experience: visitors can explore different themed areas at Langwies railway station—and even within the viaduct itself—gaining insight into the structure and the Chur–Arosa line in a direct and sensory way through various historical spaces. Each of the museum’s stations not only presents technical details, but also explains the role the Chur–Arosa Railway has played in transportation, tourism, and local life. From its construction history to artistic and literary perspectives, the stations offer a variety of ways to learn more about the viaduct—inviting visitors to marvel and explore. And to top it all off: the Langwies Viaduct can be seen from each of them.
