Enchanting Val Bregaglia

In his works “Cervo”, “Stambecco”, and “Urogallo”, Italian painter and video artist Simone Berti takes viewers to an imaginary, otherworldly place — on a journey where Renaissance painting, surreal undertones, and abstraction come together in animated video installations.

The path leads through symbolic and archetypal sites throughout the Val Bregaglia: from the Stalla Martinenga to the shepherd’s hut in Stampa and on to Nossa Donna in Promontogno, the oldest church in the valley. The idyllic view from there is also at the centre of a photograph by Andrea Garbald dating to 1905, which is part of a photo album. The image, brought to life with delicate pastel colours, evokes a fairy-tale atmosphere and turns the landscape of the Val Bregaglia into a floating bridge between reality and dream.
