The competence centre for the history of the Val Bregaglia
The Società Storica Bregaglia is a historical society with an in-depth focus on the culture and history of the Val Bregaglia. The society is based in the Palazzo Castelmur, where it operates a historical and photo-graphic archive. The society is dedicated to the collection, preservation and accessibility of historical documents and audi-ovisual materials. Building on these efforts, the society endeavours to introduce critical and innovative approaches to the study of the valley’s history. Consequently, the Società Storica Bergaglia also organises conferences and guided tours and is active in publishing. The historical archive brings together documents spanning more than four centuries. The 17th and 19th centuries and the topic of emigration are particularly well represented. The photo archive is continuously being digitised and can be searched online by topic and location.
