Val Bregaglia Mosaic

In his work “Mondo di Bregaglia”, created in collaboration with students from the bilingual school in Maloja, the artist DEM explores the cultural roots of the region. The work blends personal memories with local identity, resulting in a colourful mosaic.

The aim of uniting the valley’s many facets within a single frame is also pursued by Pro Grigioni Italiano with its historic “Almanacco”. Poetry, history, and the present merge in the magazine’s section dedicated to the Val Bregaglia to reflect the vibrancy and cultural diversity of this region. Over the years, however, the Val Bregaglia featured not only on the pages dedicated to the valley, but — thanks to various illustrations by well-known artists connected to the valley — also on the covers of the “Almanacco”. Notable examples include the cover featuring five coltsfoot flowers by Augusto Giacometti, which appeared from 1927 to 1930; the lively composition by Gottardo Segantini, which adorned the covers between 1931 and 1933; and, from 1939 to 1941, the colourful bouquet of flowers by the painter Giuseppe Scartezzini, whose family originated in the Val Bregaglia.
